My 2017 Jaguar F-Pace has been my daily car for almost three years, and I never had a single problem with it until this month. Now, every morning when the engine is still cold, it shifts hard from first to second, like a small kick from behind. After about ten minutes it feels smoother, so I kept telling myself it was nothing. Then last Thursday it also took a long pause before moving after I put it in reverse at the mall parking. My brother in law, who knows a bit about cars, told me to stop guessing and look for a certified Jaguar transmission specialist in Sharjah, because he said these gearboxes are different from normal ones and need the right scan tools. I did not know that, to be honest. I always thought any garage could look at a gearbox. I read a page about Jaguar gearbox repair online, only to understand the basics, and it talked about fluid, sensors and control parts in simple words. It did not scare me, but it did not tell me how to pick the right place either. So here are my questions. Is a hard shift only when the car is cold a small problem, or can it grow into something big? Should I change the gearbox oil first, or get the car scanned before I touch anything? I also wonder if there are special tools only a Jaguar specialist would have, or if that is just something people say. How much does a scan usually cost, and do they tell you the result the same day? My car has about 98,000 kilometers, and the service book shows oil changes for the engine but I cannot find anything about the gearbox. I drive around thirty kilometers to work every day, so I cannot leave it for many days. If you had the same cold hard shift on your Jaguar, please tell me what the cause was and what you paid. Thanks for reading.
